If you think your pet is having an emergency, you are probably right. Pets cannot tell us what is wrong and sometimes it is hard to tell. Please visit our Emergency page for a list of common emergencies that require immediate care.

Board-certified specialists have undergone additional specialty training beyond the normal four years of veterinary school. In addition, certification requires passing all parts of a multiple-day test. Our hospital has board-certified surgeons and ophthamologists.

See your family veterinarian for an initial evaluation. If your veterinarian determines that your pet is in need of our expertise, he/she will refer you to our practice. You do not need an appointment for after hours, weekend or holiday emergency care.
After an examination and consultation with one of our doctors, costs associated with any further diagnostics and surgeries will be discussed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the complexity of the case. We accept all major credit cards, cash, CareCredit and Scratchpay.
  • Copies of recent X-rays, bloodwork and medical records.
  • All current medications, prescription and over the counter. (Make note of the scheduled times for the next doses.
  • Any special medically-required diet.

Yes! The Holiday Inn Express is located next door and will allow pets if they have an appointment at Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham.
